Contest: Childhood stories (WINNER ANNOUNCED!)

I was just doing some random blog searching and found some really funny stories about other people's childhood. Like this one - read the entries titled "Odd Family Stuff" at Knockbacks at Halifax (link on left column) or just click here. Hilarious!

So here is another contest. Not quite sure sort of response this is going to get, but what the heck. Gotta start somewhere.

The topic
A funny childhood story

How to post
Click on the comments hyperlink below. Then there will be a Comments space for you to type your story. Then click Send.
You have to leave your name and email address at least. Your email address will not be disclosed - it is just for me to contact you in case you win.

The prize
If you are a Singapore resident, you get two movie tickets to any show. It will be at one of the cineplexes - so you can use it for any movie.
If you are not a Singapore resident, I will find an alternative prize for you. I will ask for a mailing address so that I can send the prize over.
Only one winner, people!

The judging criteria
Laughs, I guess!
And if you think someone else's story is good, leave a comment ok?

The deadline
Contest closes 2 weeks from the date of this post. So that makes it 9 June 2005, Thursday.

Thoughts
1. In reading other people's stories I realized that you do not have to know the person in order to enjoy his or her blog or story. So please write in! The whole idea is to keep the love going. We have long and hard days and everyone can use a laugh.
2. It is possible to be really funny without being offensive.
3. You can post multiple entries for better chances of winning
4. I really hope this works because it allows you guys to participate in my blog.
5. Not that I am expecting to do it, but I have the right to remove, or edit, any post which I feel is inappropriate for any reason whatsoever. If I edit any posts, the purpose is not to alter the spirit of the story, but probably to clarify things more.

Ok, here we go!

I like Harold's post. Hehe... i can just picture him as a kid, sitting down a Macs & staring at the rectangular food in front of him & wondering if it was a hash brown or an apple pie. Wahahahaha.

Maybe that's how his "just tell me what u want me to eat" mentality developed...

Darn it! It's me again. I've been browsing blogs recently... realised i dun usually have the patience to read long entries if i dunno the author of the blog. Among the few friends with blogs, i like your's the best. Keep it up! It's nice to read your entries and keep up with what's happening in the cell that way... through the little nuggets of info u share. :)

Hey Sandy, the 2 incident were separate incidents... not like gang / triad reprisals or something...

There was one time in JC when my Nike shoes got wet in the rain, so thereafter, i would walk with a "squeak" and everyone would know that i was coming, that i was behind them...etc. (you get the picture..)

So one day, during physical education, we changed into our exercise attire and because you could be severly punished if you were late (and of course we were)... we were sprinting from the toilet to our bags to pack our stuff.. my friend, julia, was in front of me, cos obviously, she runs faster.. suddenly, in my haste, I tripped and fell with a loud thud! Like a ton of bricks!!! (okay, i was fat then..) It was so painful and extremely embarassing cos it was those flat-on-my-face types!! While everyone else around was helping me up, I called out for Julia but she kept running on and on.. until suddenly, she stopped and turned around.. she saw that i fell and ran up to me..

"How come you never hear me? The whole world heard me fall and call out for you!!"

Julia said: "Sorry, sorry.. I was concentrating on running.. but i realised you were not behind me when the squeaking stop." =)

Now i only wear adidas.

Okay, round 2... (i understand that my previous entry doesn't count cos the story has to be childhood types, i.e. when i'm 12 years old or younger.)

I remember when we were very-very-very young (I don't remember the age but I assure you, very-very-very young).. me and my sister were fascinated with bubble lifts in hotels (those that are like a glass bubble and when you go up, you can see the ground floor get further and further away from you..what a thrill!!)

Anyway, one weekend after lunch with my family, me and my sis insisted on going to a nearby hotel with a bubble lift and go for "rides". My mum said ok but my brother being much older and obviously didn't share the same fascination of his very-very-very young sisters, was totally against it.. "you guys will go up and down forever!!" But after much persuasion from my mum, he said " OK, but only 4 times up and down! I'll be counting!"

So me, mum and sis went into the bubble lift.. we went up and once again I felt like I was flying, being lifted and the people below became smaller and smaller.. what a great feeling!! Except for everytime that the lift reached the 1st flr, the doors opened and we see my brother there, gesturing with his fingers the number of times we went up already. He was really counting..

When it was the 4th time, I felt so desperate that it was going to end.. then suddenly, it strikes me.. "let's stop and get out on the 2nd flr instead and get back on so Kor (bro) cannot catch us and make us come out!!" My ma laughed and my sis was like "Yeah! Yeah!". So we press the 2nd flr, I didn't care that my bro would give it to me later, as long as i got my rides.. so when the 2nd flr opened, we were about to get out.. I almost died of shock!!.. my brother was standing outside the 2nd flr lift door!!!!

"I KNEW IT!! YOU GUYS CAN'T FOOL ME!! GET OUT NOW!!"

I sulked all the way home. But to end off my very-very-very young and tragic childhood story, I would like to say that although me and my siblings sometimes fight and disagree, I have grown to appreciate the fact that I can be totally myself with them, that they know me inside out and love me just as much.. That is the most precious thing... I love you both..
