Critical mass

F and I decided to start throwing some frisbee.  We both kinda know how to play, but we're no where near professional.  Found a great pitch though.

Thought it would be nice to get a group going, been trying for the past month and a half.  We really struggled at first, 5 people, 6.  Yesterday, we got 11.  YES! Finally some action :)

Great weather too.  Sunny.  Might start getting incredibly hot but then I'm just happy that we're getting this going.  Now if we can just hit 14 for a 7 aside game.

Beijing opera

A friend and I decided to go get us some culture so we went for a Beijing opera last Saturday.  The Chinese title is 狸猫换太子, translated as "Civet, A Substitute for a Prince" (I didn't do the translation).

I was half expecting some rather wayang-ish opera (i.e. very ching-chong-chang type, Singaporeans will know what I mean) and suspected I would walk out halfway because I didn't understand.  Yet we went anyway because we got the cheapest seats and figured RMB 60 wasn't too much damage...  It turned out quite alright actually.

Between the short English summaries at the beginning of each scene, a 25% understanding of what was actually being said/sung, and a 50% understanding of the Chinese subtitles projected on the sides of the stage, my friend and I managed to follow the entire play.

I guess I could go for another one in a few months.  Heh.

Susan Boyle

Wow, finally got around to watching Susan Boyle's performance of I Dreamed a Dream on Britain's Got Talent.  Geez, that was a lovely and incredible.  Talk about something bring a smile to your face.  Wow.  :)

Fat adidas instructor/spokeperson?

I'm one of those silly consumers who wants to be lied to.  Like, "if you use this product, you will become such and such."  Or "if you sign up for this program, you can such and such."  "Look at me, I used this, and here are the results..."

Hence my surprise when I saw this picture of a gym instructor on an adidas roadshow, the woman wearing a mike and in the orange tank top.  She was fat!  Ok she wasn't overweight, but I always imagined that if you were going to be a fitness instructor (or even pretend to be one), you would have none of those tell tale fats... like a belly, or the lack of waist.  I mean, there's a difference between muscle bulk and fats.

Maybe she just gave birth.  You know, I don't even know why these things get to me.  Sigh.
