Into White

This song is sung by Becky Jane Taylor called "Into Whilte". Enjoy!

I built my house from barley rice
Green pepper walls and water ice
Tables of paperwood, windows of light
And everything emptying into white.

A simple garden, with acres of sky
A brown-haired dogmouse
If one dropped by
Yellow Delanie would sleep well at night
With everything emptying into white.

A sad blue eyed drummer rehearses outside
A black spider dancing on top of his eye
Red legged chicken stands ready to strike
And everything emptying into white.

I built my house from barley rice
Green pepper walls and water ice...
And everything emptying into white

P.S. Could one of you let me know if the song is not downloading properly? I can't seem to get it to play completely, but i do not know if it is my internet connection or something else. Thanks!

The Myth

This is the latest movie by Jackie Chan. He is an archaeologist who has dreams of a time and love from the Qin Dynasty. The movie is about his exploration of this mystery and the other historical myths.

This movie was better than I expected. But what I really like about it is the theme song (title: 《无尽的爱》 or “Endless Love”) from the movie. You will not believe how many times I have played this song over and over again all in one sitting. It is incredibly beautiful. The lyrics are in Chinese and Korean and sung by Jackie Chan and the Korean lead actress from the movie.

When I first heard the song, I did not understand the words, but I was fascinated by the tenderness conveyed in the melody, the singers’ voices, and the blend of Chinese and Korean language. It makes me feel so sad for the lead characters, and it makes me crave the feeling of being in love. I do not know why. Maybe I am slightly homesick and am missing people I love. I do not think I have been this affected by a Chinese movie (much less a Chinese song) before. Amazing.

I am putting the music up now on this blog. As I am streaming the song from another website, it might be a little choppy, sorry about that. Here are the lyrics in Chinese. I would totally spoil the song if I tried to translate the lyrics, so I will not. So if you cannot read the words, just listen. All you really need to know is that this is a love song.

Better Together by Jack Johnson

Never heard of Jack Johnson till one day at the CD store.  I like this song (playing now) because it just makes you want to kick back and relax.  Sounds very Hawaiian/Carribean.  And being that I often get into an escapist mood these days, this song helps bring me far away from wherever I am.  I hope you guys like this too.

There's no combination of words
I could put on the back of a postcard
No song that I could sing
But I can try for your heart
Our dreams, and they are made out of real things
Like a, shoebox of photographs
With sepiatone loving
Love is the answer,
At least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? and where do we go?
And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy and
Sometimes life can be deceiving
I'll tell you one thing it's always better when we're together

[Chorus:]
MMM its always better when we're together
Yeah, well look at the stars when we're together
Its always better when we're together
Yeah, its always better when we're together

And all of these moments
Just might find their way into my dreams tonight
But I know that theyll be gone
When the morning light sings
And brings new things
But tomorrow night you see
That they'll be gone too
Too many things I have to do
But if all of these dreams might find their way
Into my day to day scene
I'll be under the impression
I was somewhere in between
With only two
Just me and you
Not so many things we got to do
Or places we got to be
We'll sit beneath the mango tree

Its always better when we're together
We're somewhere in between together
Its always better when we're together
Yeah, its always better when we're together

MMmmmm MMMmmmm Mmmmmm

I believe in memories
They look so, so pretty when I sleep
Hey now, and when I wake up,
You look so pretty sleeping next to me
But there is not enough time,
And there is no song I could sing
And there is no, combination of words I could say
But I will still tell you one thing
We're better together.

(Sorry, the original song quality is much better.  I had to sacrifice sound quality so that I could share it with you)

Time

Attended the wake of Ms. X-ray's grandma yesterday. Surprised though when Curly (an old school mate of mine - we used to have a lot of fun in high school) appeared and turned out to be Ms. X-ray's first cousin. He was also a friend of Crispy Prawn's and a friend of a friend of someone else at our table. What a small world. In Singapore at least. Seems like almost everybody knows somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody who knows you.

Last I recall of Curly, he left a pretty sour impression about 5 years ago. I cannot remember why. Perhaps I was too petty. Perhaps he did or said something that was truly distasteful. Regardless it was good to see him again yesterday. We talked for a bit. Maybe it was the conversation topic, and maybe we have both mellowed. But it was nice to erase that sour impression that had hung around for longer than necessary.

I like what time does to people (myself included). It brings you through a series of experiences that shape your character and mould your soul. It filters off the chaff, refines the gold and polishes the diamond. It reveals the transient and what (or who) really matters. I think even hardened criminals, while they may never say so, turn around at the end.

Hence I like this song "Only Time" by Enya (lyrics below). When 911 occured, there was a concert where artistes performed in memory of the lost. Enya performed this song, and I felt that it was so appropriate. While it tends to be a bit skewed towards love, the notion that it takes time to understand why things are the way they are resonates with me.

All the "why"s that we have will be dealt with in their own time. Some will be answered, some will become insignificant. It is okay to have burning questions, to be angry, frustrated and or sad, but we should persevere in our search for answers. But we should not be disappointed if we are led around corners, meet dead ends, or have to backtrack. Because time teaches and we learn, because we develop the virtue of patience, and because there are never any regrets for having taken the path that we had to.

Very much in the style of my Papa.

Who can say where the road goes,
Where the day flows?
Only time...

And who can say if your love grows,
As your heart chose?
Only time...

Who can say why your heart sighs,
As your love flies?
Only time...

And who can say why your heart cries,
When your love dies?
Only time...

Who can say when the roads meet,
That love might be,
In your heart.

And who can say when the day sleeps,
If the night keeps all your heart?
Night keeps all your heart...

Who can say if your love grows,
As your heart chose?
Only time...

And who can say where the road goes,
Where the day flows?
Only time...

Who knows?
Only time...

Who knows?
Only time...
