Weekend art

Got my calligraphy pen set. Over the weekend, I decided to practice some calligraphy.

When I started, I told Jose that I’d have something for him when he got back from golf. Practice and actual writing included, I ended spending about four hours on it. My neck and wrist hurt after that. I’m pretty sure there’s something wrong with my posture and my writing position. I know for sure I was hunched over, and I was writing with my paper straight as opposed to the usual slant I have when I’m writing naturally.

But above and beyond that, I was so tense during the copying of the poem. I felt more stressed trying to get this one right than I did during middle school art class exams. True enough I goofed up on the spelling two-thirds through and I was so frustrated. I found a way to salvage one error but then the second was beyond saving. So I started over again. The second one was much better, but still quite tense nonetheless.

I wonder why I felt more stressed. Maybe in middle school I really didn’t care much about the grade I got for art, but now because I’m doing it out of my own free will and as a gift, I suppose I put much more attention and effort into it.

As therapy, I spent the remainder of the afternoon watching Ally McBeal.

Afternote: Jose found a typo in my copied poem.  How embarrassing, I'll have to re-copy it again.
