Contest: Childhood stories (WINNER ANNOUNCED!)
I was just doing some random blog searching and found some really funny stories about other people's childhood. Like this one - read the entries titled "Odd Family Stuff" at Knockbacks at Halifax (link on left column) or just click here. Hilarious!
So here is another contest. Not quite sure sort of response this is going to get, but what the heck. Gotta start somewhere.
The topic
A funny childhood story
How to post
Click on the comments hyperlink below. Then there will be a Comments space for you to type your story. Then click Send.
You have to leave your name and email address at least. Your email address will not be disclosed - it is just for me to contact you in case you win.
The prize
If you are a Singapore resident, you get two movie tickets to any show. It will be at one of the cineplexes - so you can use it for any movie.
If you are not a Singapore resident, I will find an alternative prize for you. I will ask for a mailing address so that I can send the prize over.
Only one winner, people!
The judging criteria
Laughs, I guess!
And if you think someone else's story is good, leave a comment ok?
The deadline
Contest closes 2 weeks from the date of this post. So that makes it 9 June 2005, Thursday.
Thoughts
1. In reading other people's stories I realized that you do not have to know the person in order to enjoy his or her blog or story. So please write in! The whole idea is to keep the love going. We have long and hard days and everyone can use a laugh.
2. It is possible to be really funny without being offensive.
3. You can post multiple entries for better chances of winning
4. I really hope this works because it allows you guys to participate in my blog.
5. Not that I am expecting to do it, but I have the right to remove, or edit, any post which I feel is inappropriate for any reason whatsoever. If I edit any posts, the purpose is not to alter the spirit of the story, but probably to clarify things more.
Ok, here we go!

Contest
I try to challenge phil by issuing contests to them. The first one was to interpret one of my most bizarre dreams. The second was to nominate a movie, and why they should be the one to go with me. Last Friday, I released the third contest. Here are the details of the third contest:
The prize
2 free tickets for any Shaw cinema. Yes, you get both, I will not make you watch the movie with me.
The contest
A. Suggest one topic that i can write about on my blog. As i usually make references, you should also state how you want to be mentioned in it.
(I am not out of topics, just that I thought it would be cool to get some phil-inspiration)
Evaluation criteria includes the following:
1. It should generally "jive" with me - e.g. Economics is a no-no, Ultimate is ok
2. It should not be something that i have already written about
3. How creatively you put yourself into the topic
B. Suggest appropriate music to accompany my blog.
You have to give me the song name and artiste.
Evaluation criteria includes the following:
1. It should not contain swear words. I would prefer music with no words, but i can be flexible on that if you have got something really good.
2. It should generally "jive" with me - e.g. chinese opera is not ok, Avril is ok (but it doesn't mean that you'll win if you suggest an avril song)
3. I should be able to make out and understand the words (if any). While chinese songs are ok, please do not give me some Jay Chou song.
4. It should complement, not distract from the blog.
The deadline
All entries were to be sent to ME ONLY by thursday 14 april midnight.
The results
Jukebox, Meeshell, Azzamac and Crispy Prawn participated. Jukebox's entry was hilarious - something about boys, animals and... hmm, I think I will stop there. Meeshell's was actually not too bad. Azzamac's stab was surprisingly simple and I had half a mind to give it to him. But Crispy Prawn's was the one that really spoke to me.
So she wins. What did she suggest? You will find out soon enough. (Funny, I thought that last two lines sounded strangely ike, "Who am I? I'm Spiderman.")
As for the ideas generated by the other three, I think I can work them out. You will see.
You want in?
Well, the contest may be over, but if you want to contribute as well, send me an email at mashpot at hotmail dot com, or just write a comment below. It will be great to hear from you.
